Atzei Saragat Monica 2022
Sardinia, Italy (75 cL)
A fine showcase for Monica, a typically Sardinian black grape variety.
The Monica grape produces colorful, smooth wines that are best enjoyed young. Saragat Monica has a bright red color with violet highlights. The nose is characterized by intense, wrapping notes of marasca cherry, plum and wild berries. On the palate, it offers notes of red fruits and spices. Round, silky tannins follow through to a long finish. It's the perfect companion for a wide variety of dishes, and a great choice for any occasion.
Atzei, Farnese Group, was born in Sardinia, in the town of Mogoro, province of Oristano; a region rich in history with a long tradition of winegrowing. Unspoilt nature is combined with a simple lifestyle, far removed from modern frenzy. Some vineyards are still ploughed gently and slowly by horses, while local craftsmen follow ancient traditions, such as the marvellous Sardinian tapestries, to which the winery has paid homage in their labels. The winery is located in the splendid setting of the Giara mountains, an unspoilt valley full of archaeological remains at the foot of Monte Arci, an extinct volcano that rises above the town and nourishes and strengthens the roots of the vines. The climate in the Oristano region is predominantly Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and cold, rainy winters. The surrounding mountains create a perfect microclimate even in the hottest months of the year. In this area, thanks to the presence of Monte Arci, the predominantly limestone soils benefit from the presence of obsidian stones rich in phosphorus, potassium and magnesium.
