Domaine de Baccari Première de Baccari Red 2016
Meknes, Morocco (75 cL)
An elegant, refined and exclusive wine from the estate's oldest vines.
Première de Baccari is a crimson-red wine, a blend of Cabernet Franc (70%) and Syrah (30%) from a limestone plateau and old vines. This wine is aged in 30 hectoliter tuns, amphoras and 500-liter barrels. It represents the estate's finest red wine, complex, textured, with aromas of black fruits, spices and peppermint, and a long, elegant finish that fully expresses its limestone terroir. Thanks to its rich, smooth tannins, Première de Baccari is a long-keeping wine.
Domaine de Baccari (a shortening of the beautiful name of the Baccharis flower) is located in the Meknes region, the heart of Moroccan winegrowing since ancient times. The hilly terrain and natural beauty of the area invite serenity. The vineyard is nestled in the foothills of the Middle Atlas at an altitude of 650m. Conducted by Nahla Bahnini and her team, in collaboration with French oenologist Stéphane Derenoncourt, the vineyard is planted on fine red clay and soft limestone subsoil. The combination of this distinctive soil and a sunny but cool climate has given rise to a terroir conducive to the production of a wine with a strong identity. The vines flourish in a setting of olive and almond trees, favoring biodiversity. The vineyards are managed using integrated farming methods that respect the soil, the plants, the environment and people, with the aim of producing premium Moroccan wines that meet the highest international standards.
