Atzei Saragat Vermentino 2023
Sardinia, Italy (75 cL)
Vermentino is a grape variety native to Corsica and Sardinia (called Rolle in Provence).
Saragat Vermentino has an intense yellow color with green highlights. The nose gradually opens up to aromas of rosemary, typical of the variety, elderflower, white-fleshed fruit and lychee. The palate is smooth, tasty and lively, with good structure and excellent balance. The persistence of aromas leaves a light, typical bitter note.
Atzei, Farnese Group, was born in Sardinia, in the town of Mogoro, province of Oristano; a region rich in history with a long tradition of winegrowing. Unspoilt nature is combined with a simple lifestyle, far removed from modern frenzy. Some vineyards are still ploughed gently and slowly by horses, while local craftsmen follow ancient traditions, such as the marvellous Sardinian tapestries, to which the winery has paid homage in their labels. The winery is located in the splendid setting of the Giara mountains, an unspoilt valley full of archaeological remains at the foot of Monte Arci, an extinct volcano that rises above the town and nourishes and strengthens the roots of the vines. The climate in the Oristano region is predominantly Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and cold, rainy winters. The surrounding mountains create a perfect microclimate even in the hottest months of the year. In this area, thanks to the presence of Monte Arci, the predominantly limestone soils benefit from the presence of obsidian stones rich in phosphorus, potassium and magnesium.
