Shumi Winery Iberiuli Saperavi Qvevri 2023
Kakheti, Georgia (75 cL)
A deep and structured expression of Saperavi, where dark fruit meets spice and the mineral character of qvevri.
This Iberiuli cuvée reveals another side of Saperavi: wilder, more textured and deeply rooted in Georgian tradition. Crafted in qvevri, this red opens with intense aromas of black cherry, plum and dark fruits, lifted by hints of vanilla and sweet spice. The palate is broad and juicy, yet firmly dry and structured, with vibrant acidity and fresh tannins providing balance. A peppery finish gives the wine impressive persistence. It is an ideal partner for spiced lamb, Georgian stews, grilled meats or herb-roasted vegetables. The 2023 Iberiuli Saperavi Qvevri was awarded a Silver medal at the 2026 IWSC.
Founded in 1997 in Tsinandali, at the heart of Kakheti, Shumi is one of the pioneering family wineries of modern Georgia. With vineyards spread across several of the country’s key terroirs and appellations, the estate seeks to match indigenous grape varieties with the terroirs where they can best express themselves. Its approach brings Georgian traditions, particularly qvevri winemaking, into dialogue with contemporary techniques, with the ambition of revealing the diversity of Georgia’s rich wine heritage.
