Shumi Winery Saperavi 2024
Kakheti, Georgia (75 cL)
A vibrant red revealing the depth of Saperavi while retaining remarkable freshness.
Georgia’s emblematic red grape, Saperavi produces here a wine that is both generous and energetic. Its deep colour is matched by an expressive nose of ripe red and black fruits, with plum, black cherry and blackberry intertwined with subtle spice. On the palate, the fruit is dense without feeling heavy, supported by lively acidity and tannins that provide structure and definition. A fresh, gently peppery finish gives the wine real energy and makes it particularly suited to the table. It pairs naturally with roast lamb, ribeye, grilled meats or richly spiced slow-cooked dishes.
Founded in 1997 in Tsinandali, at the heart of Kakheti, Shumi is one of the pioneering family wineries of modern Georgia. With vineyards spread across several of the country’s key terroirs and appellations, the estate seeks to match indigenous grape varieties with the terroirs where they can best express themselves. Its approach brings Georgian traditions, particularly qvevri winemaking, into dialogue with contemporary techniques, with the ambition of revealing the diversity of Georgia’s rich wine heritage.
