Zorah Karasi 2022
Vayots Dzor, Armenia (75 cL)
A benchmark expression of high-altitude Areni
Made entirely from Areni Noir, Karasi captures the character of Vayots Dzor with remarkable precision. The ungrafted vines grow at around 1,400 metres, in poor, sandy limestone-rich soils.
After fermentation with native yeasts in concrete vats, the wine spends around 12 months ageing in traditional Armenian karas, followed by six months in bottle. Dark and red fruit combine with wild herbs, spice and a subtle smoky note. The palate is deep and textured, balanced by fresh acidity and fine, structured tannins.
Founded by Zorik Gharibian, Zorah is based in Rind, in Vayots Dzor, one of Armenia’s great high-altitude wine regions. The estate focuses on indigenous grape varieties, with vineyards planted at around 1,400 metres above sea level.
Poor, stony limestone-rich soils, wide diurnal temperature shifts and ungrafted vines give the wines their distinctive freshness and structure. In the cellar, Zorah combines concrete vats with karas, traditional Armenian clay amphorae, bringing together ancient winemaking heritage and contemporary precision.
