Kavaklıdere Pendore Öküzgözü 2020

Kavaklıdere Pendore Öküzgözü 2020

Aegean, Turkey (75 cL)

When an Anatolian grape meets the light of the Inner Aegean.

A generous, velvety Öküzgözü in which Pendore’s terroir favours a supple, fruit-driven expression.

At Pendore in the Inner Aegean, Öküzgözü takes on a more generous and velvety expression than in its native Elazığ. The vineyards, planted on volcanic, clay-loam, clay-sandy and calcareous soils, benefit from a milder climate that encourages fruit ripeness and a broad texture. Dark plum and ripe red fruit dominate the palate, accompanied by spice, dried fruit, vanilla and chocolate. French-oak ageing adds depth and complexity while preserving the brightness of the fruit. A fleshy and approachable interpretation of one of Anatolia’s great indigenous varieties.

Founded in Ankara in 1929 by Sevda and Cenap And, Kavaklıdere Şarapları was the first private-sector wine producer of the young Turkish Republic. Nearly a century later, the house continues its ambition to reveal the diversity of Anatolian wine through its own vineyards across the country. From Cappadocia to the Inner Aegean, from Ankara to Elazığ, this geographic reach allows Kavaklıdere to work with each variety in the environment best suited to expressing its identity. The house combines this approach with parcel-focused viticulture, modern facilities and a longstanding commitment to showcasing Turkey’s indigenous grape varieties.
